After the recession we move on to enjoy the rest of the day. The ceremony is now finished and the rest of the day can be divided as follows:
The Drinks Reception
The Wedding Breakfast
The Evening Reception
Here is a little information about each of the above:
The Drinks Reception
During the drinks reception the photographer usually whisks the newly wedded couple away and begins a major photographic session. This usually culminates in a group shot of all the wedding guests. This last shot frequently takes place outside – even in winter!.
It is nice to have music that is lively during this part of the day proceedings and anything from a solo pianst up to a band is suitable. When the weather is warm I can set up a digital piano outside and provide my own cover in the form of a gazebo.
The Wedding Breakfast
The next part is the wedding breakfast and the present trend is to have the speeches before the meal, rather than after. This is so that everyone can relax and eat without having to worry about anything. It is important that the music doesn’t intrude during the wedding breakfast. It should be possible for guests to converse freely without having to raise their voices. If people can’t talk, then the music is too loud. Personally I think that this applies to the entire wedding day, but I don’t think that many DJs would agree with me on that point.
I find that solo piano or a duo works best for this part of the day. The more instruments you have playing, the louder it is going to be.
The Evening Reception
Most couples have a disco or a function band for this section, but it is becoming increasingly popular to have live jazz and swing with just an hours recorded disco music at the end of the evening. This is usually a quieter option for all those wanting to chat, tell jokes, tell stories and generally be merry. Usually everyone has said everything they want to say by the last hour and are willing to be quiet and have a boogie on the dance floor.
I frequently perform for the early part of the evening using either a trio or band followed by an hour or two’s recorded disco music. We can play your playlists through our system and provide you with suitable lighting.
